The history of the baguette

The Baguette is one of the national symbol of France and it refers to a long thin loaf of French bread. The word baguette simply means stick and it was on 1920 that it started to be used in reference to a new shape of bread. in October 1920 a law prevented bakers from working before 4 a.m., making it impossible to make the traditional, round loaf in time for customers' breakfasts. The slender baguette solved the problem, because it could be prepared and baked much more rapidly.
